We know that women have sought out voting since ancient Greece. Under the Articles of Confederation some states allowed women to vote. Unfortunately, women lost that right when the current Constitution was passed. The Woman’s Rights Movement ramped up with the Abolishment Movement. Some women campaigning to end slavery also began to demand fair treatment for themselves, including the right to vote. Most women wanted to be free and equal with men, have the right to have a good education, own property, vote, and take part in government. There are two women leaders that dominated the movement for over 50 years, Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton.
